Tahitian cultured pearls naturally occur in dark body colours, often grey rather than jet black, with green, blue, rose or aubergine overtones.

What is a pearl overtone?

Body colour is the dominant overall colour. Overtone is a translucent secondary colour visible over the surface, while orient describes a more iridescent play of colours.

Can a screen identify a pearl treatment?

No. Screens and photographs shift colour, and treatments can be subtle. A laboratory assessment is needed when origin or treatment materially affects a purchase.
